Calligraphy

The art of beautiful,
artistic lettering!

Learning new things requires practice and calligraphy is no different! To learn how to do calligraphy is actually very easy. Mastering calligraphy requires patient practice. A steady hand is helpful as you strive to gain a flourishing stroke. My best advice – do not give up after just a few tries! I have spent close to 35 years practicing calligraphy and I am still learning new styles and techniques!

As you begin with the practice page, remember to angle your paper so that you can get a proper “slant” for the italic lettering. Set your pen wedge on the 35 degree angle and begin trying the downstroke like the lower case letter L. Once you feel comfortable with that stroke, try a curved stroke like the left and right side of the letter O. Once you have completed practicing several stroke types, then begin to try the words listed on the paper. There are many reference books available and videos on the Internet to aid in giving tips. If you would like individual lessons, feel free to contact me.
